Exceptional Engineer

Role overview

Build core engineering infrastructure for an open-source observability product that helps teams understand applications through metrics, traces, and logs. This role is aimed at an experienced engineer who can take ambiguous, high-impact problems from discovery through production, especially as systems and teams scale quickly.

Responsibilities

- Find, scope, and own important technical problems through to resolution. - Design and deliver production systems that remain reliable as usage and complexity grow. - Move quickly while maintaining code quality and making sound trade-offs about where polish is needed. - Take responsibility for operational issues and help resolve production failures, regardless of code ownership. - Contribute to a growing developer infrastructure product and help shape how teams use observability tools.

Requirements

- A track record of being among the strongest engineers on prior teams, particularly on difficult or ambiguous work. - Experience delivering high-quality software at speed under demanding conditions. - Experience as a core engineer during substantial growth in users, systems, or teams. - Evidence of solving real production scaling problems, not only designing for hypothetical scale. - Strong judgment about abstractions, data models, and technical trade-offs, with openness to revising decisions as evidence changes.

Nice to have

- Experience with monitoring, logging, or tracing; familiarity with OpenTelemetry, ClickHouse, or Kubernetes. - Open-source work, side projects, or experience as an early engineer at a fast-growing company. - Interest in founding or building B2B developer tools.
