Senior Java Engineer

Role overview

Build and maintain scalable Java backend services for a large-scale product, taking ownership of defined services or functional areas. You will work with product, quality assurance, web and mobile colleagues, and contribute to reliable, testable systems. AI assistants are an expected part of the engineering workflow, with engineers responsible for reviewing and owning the code and design decisions they produce.

Responsibilities

- Design and deliver clean, scalable and testable Java backend systems with minimal supervision. - Own specific services or functional areas within a larger architecture. - Collaborate with backend, web, mobile, QA and product teams. - Use AI tools across activities such as design, prototyping, refactoring, testing and code review. - Maintain strong test coverage and predictable behavior in production. - Improve engineering practices and system scalability over time.

Requirements

- Extensive production experience with Java and its ecosystem. - Understanding of relational databases and messaging systems; PostgreSQL and Kafka are preferred. - Strong system design, troubleshooting and debugging skills. - Comfortable using AI coding assistants proactively in day-to-day development. - Ability to validate, refine and take responsibility for AI-generated code. - Upper-intermediate or higher English proficiency.
