Remote job
Networking Software Engineer
Job details
About this role
Role overview A remote software engineering role focused on networking within a rack-scale platform that combines a custom switch, compute sled, and full software stack from firmware to user-facing tools. The position emphasizes hardware/software co-design and open-source development across the OSI stack, contributing to a tightly integrated compute and networking system.
Responsibilities - Partner with systems engineers to understand customer use cases and build out the core platform, spanning integrated switching, custom compute, and the orchestration software tying them together. - Work across multiple layers of the stack to deliver a true rack-scale system, from low-level firmware through end-user experience. - Build tooling to simulate and analyze complex networks, including those running in customer production environments. - Apply logging, tracing, and metrics practices to distributed systems work. - Write and maintain code primarily in Rust and C, with some P4, contributing to open-source codebases and in-kernel packet processing modules.
Requirements - Hands-on experience with Rust or another low-level systems language such as C. - Deep understanding of load balancing techniques and trade-offs. - Practical experience operating and developing IPsec-based VPN technologies. - Track record of implementing networking protocols in performance- and correctness-constrained environments. - Experience designing, implementing, deploying, and operating data center networks that use dynamic routing protocols and overlay networks.
Benefits and work setup - Fully remote position with a requirement that the workday overlaps Pacific Time by at least four hours. - Flexible working hours to support life outside of work. - Premium medical PPO, dental, and vision coverage with 100% of premiums covered for employees and dependents. - Uniform compensation of $275,000 USD regardless of location.
