Role overview
A remote software engineering position focused on building the distributed control plane that orchestrates virtual machines, storage, and networking across on-premises rack-scale infrastructure. The work centers on shipping open-source systems software that powers customer-operated datacenters and is delivered as a cohesive, air-gapped appliance.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement a robust distributed system that provisions compute, storage, and networking resources for rack-scale deployments - Write production code primarily in Rust, with the ability to read and reason about adjacent C codebases - Contribute to open-source components spanning block storage, hypervisor, host operating system, and embedded operating system layers - Partner with systems-oriented engineers to translate customer use cases into platform-level improvements - Profile, benchmark, and improve the runtime performance of rack services - Build diagnostic and testing tooling for systems deployed in production at customer sites - Work hands-on with observability primitives including structured logging, distributed tracing, and metrics
Requirements
- Demonstrated experience shipping production software written in Rust - Hands-on experience designing, deploying, or operating distributed systems - Genuine curiosity about deep systems problems such as cluster attestation or live system software update - A documentation-first mindset for both your own work and that of teammates - A habit of building internal tooling to make complex systems easier to operate - Ability to work remotely with at least four hours of daily overlap with a Pacific Time schedule
