About this role
Role overview Take on urgent, high-priority engineering problems that may span programs and technical disciplines. The work ranges from hands-on investigation and analysis to temporary technical or team leadership, with responsibility for clarifying the problem, driving a verified solution, and handing stable work to its long-term owner.
Responsibilities - Quickly learn a system's context, constraints, stakeholders, and failure modes, then separate confirmed facts from assumptions. - Apply first-principles reasoning and use analysis, experiments, observation, or operating data to identify root causes and reduce uncertainty. - Work across design, modeling, prototyping, testing, manufacturing, software, data, integration, and field execution as needed. - Set a practical plan with owners, decision points, risks, schedule, and measurable completion criteria, and drive it through validation. - Lead cross-functional work temporarily when needed, communicate decisions and risks, and remove obstacles to progress. - Document decisions, open risks, and next steps, then transfer the work to a permanent owner; create reusable tools or practices where useful.
Requirements - Degree in engineering, physics, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience. - At least two years solving complex engineering problems from definition through execution, validation, and handoff. - Breadth across engineering disciplines and deep expertise in at least one area, such as mechanical, electrical, controls, software, systems, manufacturing, testing, thermal-fluid, structural, or nuclear engineering. - Ability to reason from first principles, challenge assumptions, and validate conclusions with analysis, tests, or operational evidence. - Hands-on use of relevant tools, which may include CAD, models, calculations, test equipment, scripting, data analysis, or prototyping. - Experience leading cross-functional technical work and communicating plans, decisions, and risks in writing and verbally.
Nice to have Experience in nuclear or other safety-critical energy work, regulated hardware delivery, recovering stalled programs, hardware-software integration, or recruiting and developing engineers.
