Job details
About this role
Role overview Own the engineering basis and lifecycle delivery of high-temperature process piping, pressure vessels, and related pressure boundaries for a fuel recycling facility. The work spans analysis and code compliance through supplier fabrication, testing, installation, commissioning, and operational support in demanding thermal, chemical, vacuum, and limited-access conditions.
Responsibilities - Convert process conditions and operating scenarios into design requirements, applicable codes, load cases, service-life assumptions, and acceptance criteria. - Analyze and review piping stresses, vessel pressure capacity, thermal behavior, fatigue, creep, buckling, supports, and equipment interface loads. - Select materials and develop designs for vessels, piping, closures, supports, penetrations, and other pressure-retaining components. - Coordinate interfaces with process systems, structures, instrumentation, and confined or remotely maintained spaces. - Prepare and review calculations, specifications, drawings, data sheets, and procurement packages; assess supplier designs and resolve technical issues. - Define fabrication, inspection, testing, and acceptance requirements, and support design reviews, field changes, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
Requirements - Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline, with at least 10 years of relevant engineering experience. - Experience with process piping, pressure vessels, or high-temperature systems, including mechanical, thermal, or stress analysis. - Working knowledge of ASME B31.3 and ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section VIII. - Understanding of thermal expansion, fatigue, creep, buckling, nozzle loads, pipe supports, pressure boundaries, and elevated-temperature materials. - Experience with engineering calculations and design packages, as well as materials, welding, fabrication, inspection, and pressure testing. - Sound independent judgment, cross-disciplinary coordination skills, clear technical communication, and eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Benefits and work setup There is a strong preference for candidates based in the Oak Ridge, Tennessee area.
