Remote job
Fuel Performance Engineer
Job details
About this role
Role overview Analyze and verify how current and future reactor fuel designs perform across expected operating conditions and postulated off-normal events. The work combines engineering analysis, modeling and simulation, tool verification, and technical reporting. You’ll collaborate with reactor design, fuel fabrication, and licensing colleagues, and may contribute to experimental fuel campaigns.
Responsibilities - Evaluate fuel performance for existing and novel designs across normal and off-normal conditions. - Develop efficient analysis methods and, where useful, software tools for modeling and simulation. - Verify and validate simulation tools used to support engineering conclusions. - Support experimental fuel campaigns and provide technical feedback to design teams. - Record assumptions, methods, and findings in clear, thorough technical reports. - Adapt analyses as designs and technical questions evolve, proposing solutions to open-ended problems.
Requirements - Bachelor’s degree in engineering and at least three years of experience. - Experience with multiphysics system performance analyses. - Experience using finite element simulation software such as Ansys or Abaqus. - Background in materials analysis. - Experience with an object-oriented programming language such as Python or C++. - Clear technical writing and the ability to work collaboratively in an iterative environment.
Nice to have Nuclear fuel performance analysis; familiarity with metallic fuels; fuel analysis software such as BISON or LIFE-METAL; material selection experience; and fluency in Python.
