Remote job
Electrical Engineer – Aurora-INL
Job details
About this role
Role overview
Provide owner-side technical leadership for electrical systems on a power-generation facility project at a national laboratory site. The role coordinates engineering, procurement, construction, vendors, testing, commissioning, and turnover to deliver electrical systems that are complete, coordinated, and buildable. The project is already active, so the engineer must work within existing design and procurement decisions while resolving issues and maintaining safety, quality, and schedule needs.
Responsibilities
- Own electrical scope from design development through procurement, construction, testing, commissioning, and operational handover. - Coordinate engineering contractors and equipment vendors, clarify responsibilities and interfaces, and review drawings, specifications, calculations, studies, and vendor submissions. - Maintain electrical criteria and requirements, and check that design inputs are consistent across studies, packages, and construction documents. - Review power system analyses such as load flow, short-circuit, protection coordination, arc-flash, and grounding studies. - Resolve technical questions, design changes, information requests, nonconformances, and field issues; support procurement and vendor interface decisions. - Work with project management and construction teams on priorities, dependencies, risks, constructability, installation, inspections, and commissioning.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited program. - At least 8 years of progressively responsible electrical engineering experience, including substantial power-generation systems work. - Experience with facility distribution, emergency power, grounding, electrical equipment, and electrical studies. - Ability to review engineering deliverables and apply relevant electrical codes and standards, including IEEE and applicable building and fire codes. - Experience coordinating across engineering disciplines, contractors, and vendors, with strong communication, organization, ownership, and problem-solving skills. - Ability to prioritize and close issues amid changing project information, work through ambiguity, and find practical schedule-aware solutions without compromising technical requirements, quality, or safety. - Willingness to travel to project offices, vendor sites, and the construction site.
Nice to have
- Professional Engineer license or eligibility to obtain one. - Experience in nuclear or other regulated facilities, including applicable government requirements; 10 or more years of experience is also identified as a bonus.
