Role overview
Own the Python backend and infrastructure for a data-centered product, building systems that collect, clean, model, and serve production data. This is an early-stage role with broad architectural responsibility: you will help decide how the platform is built and operated as the product and team develop.
Responsibilities - Design and implement backend systems and data pipelines that support production workloads. - Build services to clean, model, and deliver data for product features and applied data science. - Make architecture and infrastructure decisions from initial design through deployment and ongoing operation. - Work directly with clients and engineers to understand needs and shape technical solutions. - Contribute across the stack as priorities evolve in a small, early-stage environment.
Requirements - Five or more years of backend engineering experience, primarily in Python, with substantial infrastructure and systems design work. - Prior hands-on experience as a data scientist or data engineer, building pipelines and models using production data. - A track record of owning system design decisions end to end, beyond implementing an established specification. - Experience with AWS or GCP and container tools such as Docker or Kubernetes. - Strong English communication skills for client and engineering collaboration. - Comfort working where priorities and responsibilities may change as the product takes shape.
Nice to have - Experience as a founding engineer or an early startup team member, building from the ground up. - Work with time-series or event data, such as attribution or forecasting. - Rust experience, particularly in data collection or systems engineering. - Experience designing a data platform, contributing to open-source infrastructure tools, or owning a product flow from collection through shipped feature. - Familiarity with AI-assisted development practices, including specification, agent delegation, and human review.
