About this role
Role overview
Develop and operate backend services for large-scale metrics ingestion, storage, and querying in a distributed observability system. The work spans product development and production operations, including improving efficiency and resilience, contributing to open-source software, and supporting services through an on-call rotation. This is a remote role for candidates in the United States or Canada.
Responsibilities - Design, build, and maintain systems that process, store, and query high volumes of metrics, with ownership of performance and reliability. - Deliver features from initial design through customer use and production operations, iterating based on results. - Improve service efficiency and resilience through engineering work informed by operating the systems. - Review code and design proposals, support release rollouts, and collaborate with engineers across the team. - Participate in follow-the-sun on-call rotations and take responsibility for the services operated. - Contribute to open-source projects and support colleagues through technical discussions and collaboration.
Requirements - Strong experience developing software in at least one programming language; Go is used, and experience with languages such as Python, C, C++, or Rust is relevant. - Ability to write clean, robust, performant code that others can maintain. - Experience delivering software from requirements and design through release and operation. - Some background in cloud software or systems engineering. - Self-direction and clear communication in a remote team environment.
Nice to have - Low-level work on databases, storage layers, or query engines. - Experience with Kubernetes, microservices, or distributed systems. - Familiarity with observability tooling, on-call duties, site reliability practices, or infrastructure as code.
Benefits and work setup - Remote-first work, with an in-person onboarding period and regular collaboration across locations. - Compensation and benefits vary by country and may include equity and a bonus. The stated leave policy provides 30 days annually, including three organization-wide shutdown days, subject to local requirements.
