About this role
Role overview
Own key safety engineering work for autonomous vehicle hardware and software, supporting both supervised and driverless operating modes. The role focuses on identifying hazards, assessing hardware reliability, translating safety goals into requirements, and helping assemble evidence for deployment.
Responsibilities
- Analyze system hazards and risks using methods such as HARA, FMEA, FTA, and STPA. - Derive and trace functional, technical, and hardware safety requirements for autonomous systems. - Quantify hardware reliability through FMEDA, diagnostic coverage analysis, PMHF calculations, and component failure rate modeling. - Assess compute hardware, sensors, actuator interfaces, and power distribution for single-point and latent faults. - Work with systems, software, robotics, hardware, and test teams to make safety requirements verifiable. - Support safety case documentation and verification evidence for operational deployment.
Requirements
- At least five years of safety engineering experience in autonomous vehicles, automotive, aerospace, or industrial safety. - At least five years in hardware safety, electrical reliability, or failure-rate modeling. - Experience with autonomous driving systems or mobile robotics. - Strong knowledge of FIT modeling, FMEDA, and component failure-rate methods such as SN 29500, IEC 61709, or MIL-HDBK-217. - Deep understanding of ISO 26262 hardware metrics, including SPFM and LFM, and diagnostic strategies. - Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, electrical or systems engineering, robotics, or a related field.
Nice to have
- Experience applying ISO 26262, DO-178C/DO-254, or IEC 61508. - Familiarity with Telcordia SR-332 and fail-operational or redundant compute architectures. - Experience working in an agile engineering team with guidance from senior safety leadership.
