Role overview A senior software engineer is needed to join a distributed engineering team that supports a high-profile mobile title in the social casino genre. The position is server-side and full-stack in scope, contributing to gameplay features, user-facing systems, and the underlying services that power the experience. The role suits a self-driven, communicative collaborator who works well inside a tight-knit, geographically distributed group and can perform under tight deadlines.
Responsibilities - Develop gameplay features and server-side functionality primarily in PHP - Extend and maintain existing internal systems to support evolving product needs - Design and work with data models across relational and non-relational storage layers - Evaluate and integrate new tools, languages, and technologies into the engineering stack - Help define, scope, and break down engineering work alongside teammates
Requirements - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience - 4+ years of professional software development experience - Strong working knowledge of an object-oriented backend language, ideally PHP - Solid foundation in data structures, algorithms, and standard software engineering practices - Excellent communication skills and comfort working in a collaborative environment
Nice to have - Prior game development experience on shipped or live-operated titles - Mobile development experience with Unity, iOS, and/or Android - Familiarity with JavaScript, Go, or similar programming languages - Experience with Git or comparable source control systems
Benefits and work setup The role is based in the Austin or Chicago area. The posted Illinois starting pay range is approximately $98,100 to $145,200 per year, with variation based on location and individual factors. Total compensation may include bonus, equity awards, 401(k) participation, and eligibility for an Employee Stock Purchase Program.
