About this role
Role overview Lead a software engineering team focused on evolving and scaling a high-volume SMS messaging platform. The position blends hands-on technical direction with people management, working across both greenfield projects and enhancements to existing systems in a cloud-native, distributed environment.
Responsibilities - Guide a team of engineers in designing and building scalable microservices for the messaging platform, which runs on Kubernetes and Nomad within AWS. - Partner with product managers and customers to translate use cases and business requirements into technical solutions. - Plan and deliver product and solution releases, managing scope, schedules, resource allocation, and cost estimation. - Uphold standards of security, quality, and test coverage in delivered software, ensuring it scales to meet business and customer needs. - Maintain and prioritize the product development backlog in collaboration with stakeholders. - Champion AI-assisted engineering practices, guiding the team in adopting effective patterns for design, coding, testing, troubleshooting, and documentation.
Requirements - Demonstrated engineering leadership skills with the ability to navigate ambiguity. - Strong practical understanding of high-performance, highly distributed computing systems. - Solid software engineering background in Java. - Strong focus on testing and software quality. - Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information clearly to diverse audiences.
Nice to have - Experience operating messaging or communications platforms at scale. - Familiarity with AWS infrastructure and container orchestration tooling such as Kubernetes and Nomad. - Track record of mentoring engineers and evolving team practices around modern development workflows.
