Role overview A remote web developer role supporting a flagship SaaS yearbook platform, focused on backend stability, performance, and reliability. The position partners with customer support, product, and engineering to triage escalations, perform root cause analysis, and ship high-quality fixes that minimize customer disruption. Over time, the role strengthens the platform by improving observability, reducing technical debt, and optimizing system performance at scale, while mentoring peers and elevating engineering standards.
Responsibilities - Ensure stability, performance, and reliability of backend services through production support, maintenance, and continuous improvement using Java and related frameworks - Own investigation and resolution of complex production issues affecting customers, including debugging across services, APIs, and databases - Deliver high-quality fixes through maintenance and patch releases, collaborating with customer support to reproduce and resolve escalated tickets - Improve application observability through logging, monitoring, and metrics, and reduce technical debt to enhance stability and performance - Review code, mentor less-experienced engineers, and improve tooling, documentation, and operational processes
Requirements - Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or related field, or equivalent experience - 2-5 years of professional software development experience with strong proficiency in Java and frameworks such as Spring Boot and Spring Cloud - Deep understanding of RESTful API design and familiarity with AWS services including Lambda, EC2, S3, DynamoDB, and RDS - Knowledge of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipelines such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or AWS Code Pipeline - Strong grasp of database design and SQL or NoSQL technologies, plus experience with Agile/Scrum and the Atlassian tool suite - Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team
Nice to have - Experience with performance tuning and optimization of large-scale services - Front-end development experience with Angular or similar frameworks
