Senior Software Engineer - Full Stack (Merchants)

Role overview

A Senior Full-Stack Engineer will join the team building merchant-facing technology for a large European online marketplace supporting restaurants and retailers across dozens of countries. The work spans onboarding, growth tooling, analytics, menu and order management, integrations, and merchant applications. Based out of the London tech hubs, the role owns complex product and technical problems from definition through production operation.

Responsibilities

- Design, build, and operate production systems spanning backend services and user-facing applications. - Lead technically complex initiatives across areas such as merchant onboarding, analytics, recommendations, menu and order management, integrations, or merchant-facing tools. - Translate ambiguous business and merchant problems into scalable, pragmatic technical solutions. - Drive architectural decisions balancing scalability, reliability, maintainability, and long-term product needs. - Own systems end-to-end, from discovery and design through implementation, rollout, production operations, and iteration. - Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, operations, and engineers across teams to align on delivery. - Mentor engineers through design reviews, code reviews, knowledge sharing, and technical guidance. - Use AI-assisted development tools effectively while maintaining judgment around correctness, security, and quality. - Operate comfortably outside a primary area of expertise when solving problems across the stack.

Requirements

- An AI-first mindset, applying modern AI tools alongside solid engineering fundamentals to deliver end-to-end solutions. - Significant experience designing, building, and operating production software at scale across backend, frontend, or full-stack environments. - A track record of owning complex features, services, or technical initiatives from problem definition through ongoing production operation. - Strong grounding in system design, APIs, databases, distributed systems, testing, observability, and production reliability. - Demonstrated ability to make architectural decisions where multiple valid approaches and meaningful trade-offs exist. - Experience mentoring engineers and raising technical bar across a team. - Clear communication skills, including explaining complex technical decisions to non-technical audiences. - Hands-on experience with a modern backend language such as Go, Kotlin, or Java, and/or modern frontend technologies such as TypeScript and React.

Nice to have

- Background building merchant-facing or internal operational tooling. - Exposure to analytics, recommendations, or decisioning systems. - Domain experience in grocery, retail, restaurants, logistics, or marketplaces. - Work integrating with external business systems. - Familiarity with Kafka or comparable streaming technologies. - Cloud infrastructure experience with AWS, Kubernetes, or Docker.
