Staff Software Engineer, Data and Partner Platform

Role overview

This Staff Software Engineer position sits on the Data and Partner Platform team, which owns partner integrations, data translation, and the organization's data warehouse. The role blends deep technical craft with broad organizational influence, shaping architectural direction, mentoring engineers, and delivering systems that are reliable, scalable, and grounded in how the energy industry actually operates. It is a full-stack opportunity with significant scope across platform engineering, data engineering, and cross-functional leadership.

Responsibilities

- Drive long-term technical vision by translating ambitious goals into well-scoped, measurable initiatives aligned with business priorities. - Architect and operate scalable systems that ingest, process, observe, and maintain billions of data points, balancing performance, accuracy, security, and compliance across the full lifecycle. - Lead schema design and data flow architecture through collaborative processes, and design partner and third-party integrations including APIs and file-driven pipelines (CSV, SFTP, Airflow). - Build and maintain microservices and APIs that other teams depend on, using contract-driven development practices. - Lead incident investigations end-to-end, from initial alert through root cause analysis to resolution, and build runbooks, scripts, and detection tooling to prevent recurrence. - Mentor engineers across the team and broader organization while partnering closely with product, operations, and business development teams.

Requirements

- 7+ years of professional software engineering experience with demonstrated staff-level responsibilities or equivalent scope. - Full-stack background with experience scaling distributed systems and designing well-architected microservices. - Strong proficiency with gRPC/protobuf, RESTful APIs, and contract-driven development across multi-repository service meshes. - Clear understanding of the distinction between OLAP and OLTP relational databases, with hands-on experience planning high-performance data processes. - Experience integrating complex partner and third-party APIs and building or maintaining file-driven data pipelines. - Rigor in testing discipline (unit, integration, TDD, end-to-end), observability, data integrity, and incident response composure under pressure.

- Domain expertise in utility programs, demand response, distributed energy resource lifecycles, wholesale energy markets, or the regulatory realities that shape them.
