Software Engineer II, Marketplace Optimzation

Role overview

Join the Marketplace Optimization team as a Software Engineer II and help shape the real-time decisioning systems behind a two-sided capital marketplace. The work spans matching, offer selection, and monetization, where engineering decisions directly influence revenue, capital efficiency, and borrower outcomes. It is a backend-heavy, distributed-systems role focused on scalable services and experimentation infrastructure for a business-critical platform.

Responsibilities

- Design, build, and operate scalable backend services that power real-time marketplace decisioning, matching, offer selection, and monetization. - Build platform capabilities that enable experimentation with allocation strategies, marketplace economics, and new monetization approaches without sacrificing reliability. - Develop observable services that balance availability, latency, correctness, and operational simplicity across complex distributed systems. - Partner with product, machine learning, pricing engineering, data science, capital markets, and partnerships teams to translate marketplace needs into technical solutions. - Make architectural decisions that reduce coupling across marketplace and adjacent platforms and create reusable capabilities for future innovation. - Use generative AI tools thoughtfully to accelerate implementation, testing, debugging, and documentation while owning code quality and correctness.

Requirements

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field (or equivalent) and 2 years of software engineering experience. - Experience designing, building, and operating scalable backend or distributed systems in production. - Proficiency in one or more modern backend programming languages. - Experience running business-critical systems with testing, monitoring, incident response, and root cause analysis. - Experience designing production systems where reliability, availability, observability, and correctness are critical.

Nice to have

- Experience with marketplaces, financial systems, recommendation or matching engines, optimization systems, or experimentation platforms. - Knowledge of low-latency, high-throughput distributed system design. - Experience partnering with machine learning or data science teams to integrate models into production. - Hands-on experience with Ruby, Ruby on Rails, Python, or Kotlin. - Ability to navigate ambiguous technical and business problems and evaluate tradeoffs across teams.
