Senior Manager, Product Design - Design Platform

Role overview

Lead the design platform that provides shared foundations for products across web and native mobile. The role is intentionally hands-on: approximately 60% design work and 40% people management, with responsibility for evolving the design system, platform strategy, and AI-enabled workflows that connect design to implementation. You will manage two senior designers while partnering with Product Design and frontend platform engineering to turn standards and tools into systems used in production.

Responsibilities

- Shape the design system’s component architecture, token strategy, and visual language across the product organization. - Define the platform approach for web and mobile, identifying what should be shared and where platform-specific experiences are appropriate. - Explore AI-assisted workflows, machine-readable standards, prototyping methods, and design-to-code tools that improve how teams build. - Establish measures of impact and use data to guide priorities and build leadership support. - Create clear ownership, governance, and contribution models for the design platform across platform and product teams. - Develop two senior designers through context-setting, feedback, coaching, and opportunities to lead ambitious platform work.

Requirements

- 8+ years of product design experience, including at least 2 years of direct people management. - Experience building or substantially scaling a design system adopted by multiple product teams. - Experience defining design patterns or platform strategy across web and native mobile experiences. - Experience owning components, tokens, documentation, governance, and related design-system practices. - Ability to prototype or contribute to component implementation and work effectively with engineering partners. - Strong analytical, prioritization, business judgment, critique, and senior individual-contributor development skills.

Nice to have

Experience with AI-assisted design, prototyping, build tooling, or design-to-code workflows; knowledge of multi-platform theming and native mobile systems across iOS and Android; and experience using data to identify insights and measure platform impact.

The position is remote. Most work can be completed remotely, with periodic in-person sessions generally scheduled once or twice per quarter for several consecutive days.
