Senior Director of Data Platform Engineering

Role overview

Lead a data platform engineering organization of roughly 35 people, with the scope potentially expanding to around 50 as analytics engineering is brought in. This senior leadership role sets the strategy for the shared infrastructure that powers how data is moved, stored, curated, and governed across engineering, analytics, and machine learning teams in a regulated, data-intensive environment. The position blends platform leadership, organizational development, and hands-on architecture modernization.

Responsibilities

- Direct and evolve a platform organization spanning database engineering, data capture, data curation, and production experience with data governance, with potential scope expansion into analytics engineering. - Define the multi-year strategy and technical roadmap for shared data infrastructure, translating business priorities into high-impact platform investments. - Lead modernization of operational data architecture, partnering with engineering teams to simplify systems, improve reliability and data quality, and reduce technical debt. - Develop engineering leaders and teams, establishing clear ownership models, operating practices, and technical standards across the data platform. - Partner across analytics, analytics engineering, core engineering, and machine learning platform groups to align on shared data needs and evolve the broader data ecosystem.

Requirements

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience) and 10+ years of relevant experience, including 5+ years managing managers and multiple engineering teams. - Demonstrated experience leading a data engineering or data platform organization. - Hands-on background building and operating shared data platforms or infrastructure that enables engineering teams to build and own their own data pipelines. - Strong knowledge of database engineering, data governance, data quality, and operational data architecture. - Experience working in a regulated or data-intensive industry such as financial services or lending. - Ability to connect data infrastructure investments to business priorities and translate needs across technical and non-technical partners.

Nice to have

- Experience partnering with or leading an Analytics Engineering function. - Track record of guiding organizations through changes in data architecture, operating models, or platform ownership.
