Senior Data Platform Engineer, Enterprise Merchant Integrations
Job details
About this role
Role overview A post-purchase experience platform serving more than 1,000 merchant partners across industries is hiring a Senior Data Platform Engineer to own and mature its enterprise merchant integration platform. The role blends solutions, data, and platform engineering on an AWS serverless stack with a production event-driven backbone, turning messy, varied merchant data into clean, consistent, and trustworthy inputs for downstream systems.
Responsibilities - Design and build anti-corruption layers that map and transform each merchant's unique schemas into consistent, reusable platform capabilities. - Build the tooling and standards that let partner teams onboard merchants faster and more safely, supporting migrations and owning the hardest integrations directly. - Develop a merchant-facing error reporting framework that turns validation and processing failures into clear, actionable reports for data providers and operating engineers. - Engineer resilient data boundaries, including validation, reconciliation, and automated failure triage that catch bad data early and prevent silent data loss. - Expand the event-driven backbone across Kafka, EventBridge, and SNS, decoupling additional Step Functions and SQS orchestration and adding lifecycle webhooks. - Own work end-to-end, including monitoring, observability, data-quality checks, and reconciliation that prove systems behave as designed. - Mentor teammates and help shape the integration standards the broader team builds against.
Requirements - 4-6 years of experience in Data Engineering, Platform Engineering, or a closely related field. - Deep AWS serverless experience with Lambda, DynamoDB, Glue, and Step Functions. - Hands-on experience with event-driven systems such as Kafka, EventBridge, and SNS, plus fluency in Python and TypeScript. - Experience building and hardening large-scale data platforms and integrations, including the defensive, correctness-focused engineering that keeps external data boundaries reliable. - A track record of building platforms and tooling that other engineers build on, beyond end-user features. - Comfort with data at rest and in motion, including delivering clean data into a warehouse such as Snowflake or a data lake, and reconciling against it. - An ownership mentality, with the ability to identify problems early and drive work to completion without step-by-step guidance. - Mentorship experience paired with a humble, collaborative working style.
Nice to have - Experience designing clear, actionable error surfaces or reporting for external or non-technical consumers.
Benefits and work setup - Expected base salary range of $155,000 to $170,000 per year. - Full medical, dental, and vision benefits. - Equity in a growing early-stage company. - Generous, flexible paid time off policy. - 401(k) with financial guidance support.
