About this role
Role overview A leading metabolic-health technology organization is hiring a Principal Design System Designer to architect and scale the visual and interactive foundation of its digital product suite. Reporting to the Head of Design, this is a senior, strategy-setting role focused on building a future-proof, multi-platform design system that powers web, iOS, and Android experiences used by patients managing chronic conditions. The position suits a craft-led systems thinker who thrives in a high-velocity environment and wants their work to directly influence patient outcomes at scale.
Responsibilities - Define the long-term strategy and architectural blueprint for the product design system, setting direction for the next phase of organizational growth. - Drive rapid iteration and deployment of system components while preserving long-term scalability and consistency. - Establish governance frameworks, including contribution models, documentation standards, and version control, to enable adoption across distributed design teams. - Champion accessibility, inclusive design, and visual excellence, ensuring patterns are beautiful, functional, and compliant with WCAG standards. - Partner with engineering and product leadership to drive adoption, define success metrics, and connect design quality to user experience outcomes. - Lead experimentation with AI-driven design operations and Model Context Protocols to automate handoffs between Figma environments and production code.
Requirements - 8–10 years of experience as a system designer, with a proven track record building a 0→1 design system or leading a major overhaul at scale within a fast-paced tech environment. - Portfolio demonstrating exceptional visual craft paired with deep, scalable systems thinking. - Hands-on experience designing systems that translate across web desktop, native iOS, and Android, with awareness of platform-specific constraints. - Thorough knowledge of WCAG standards and a history of embedding accessibility from day one. - Technical fluency with front-end tooling, seamless designer-engineer handoffs, and AI-driven design ops such as Figma MCP servers or AI IDEs. - Demonstrated ability to navigate ambiguity, make rapid architectural trade-offs, and lead cross-functional initiatives with autonomy and low ego.
Benefits and work setup - Remote position based in the U.S.; candidates must be authorized to work without visa sponsorship. - Annual compensation range of $220,000–$230,000 USD, plus equity participation. - Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage (100% employer-sponsored for employees, 80% for dependents), plus HSA and FSA options. - 401(k) retirement savings plan. - Unlimited vacation with manager approval. - 16 weeks of fully paid parental leave for delivering parents and 8 weeks for non-delivering parents.
