Lead Software Engineer

Role overview

This is a senior, hands-on technical leadership role focused on building an AI-powered platform that improves the efficiency of clinical operations teams. The position sits at the intersection of backend engineering, healthcare technology, and system integrations, where the engineer will set technical direction, drive architectural decisions, and shepherd complex initiatives from discovery through production. Success in this role depends on close collaboration with AI/ML, data, infrastructure, mobile, and clinical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

- Lead end-to-end delivery of AI-powered product capabilities, spanning discovery, technical design, implementation, launch, measurement, and ongoing production operations - Partner with product managers and clinical or business stakeholders to shape priorities, evaluate tradeoffs, and turn needs into an executable roadmap - Own measurable product and business outcomes, instrument features appropriately, and use post-launch results to drive iteration - Break large initiatives into clear workstreams, delegate ownership across engineers, manage dependencies, and hold the team accountable for delivery quality - Provide full-stack technical direction across user experiences, backend services, data flows, and integrations while remaining hands-on with Python and FastAPI - Design, build, and scale reliable microservices and APIs, including integrating with or contributing to Java/Spring Boot services - Make and document architectural decisions for complex, event-driven distributed systems, weighing reliability, scalability, security, and operational tradeoffs - Collaborate with AI/ML, Data Platform, Infrastructure, and mobile teams to deliver cohesive capabilities and resolve cross-team dependencies - Productionize AI-powered features, including evaluation pipelines, guardrails, observability, and continuous improvement workflows - Mentor engineers, perform technical reviews, and evolve engineering practices for safe, frequent releases and reliable operations

Requirements

- 6+ years of professional software engineering experience, including recent hands-on backend or full-stack product development - Demonstrated experience leading a significant project or team through end-to-end delivery, including planning, delegation, dependency coordination, and technical decisions - Track record of partnering with product managers and business stakeholders to shape priorities and own measurable customer or business outcomes - Experience personally owning customer-facing products from discovery through launch, iteration, and production support - Full-stack technical leadership experience with strong hands-on Python expertise and FastAPI-based microservices - Personal experience designing complex, event-driven systems and distributed architectures with documented scalability and reliability tradeoffs - Strong knowledge of API design, authentication and authorization, data modeling, production debugging, and performance optimization - Clear communication skills for explaining technical decisions, risks, tradeoffs, and progress to engineering, product, clinical, and business audiences

Nice to have

- Experience developing and operating AI agents or AI-powered products in production, including evaluation, safety controls, monitoring, and iterative improvement - Experience building products in healthcare, regulated environments, or fast-paced growth-stage companies
