About this role

Role overview A remote backend engineering role focused on building and scaling the services behind an all-in-one retail platform that combines point-of-sale, eCommerce, marketing, analytics, and inventory management. The position is part of a cross-functional product team that owns services end-to-end, from design through production reliability, with a strong emphasis on performance, scalability, and reducing technical debt.

Responsibilities - Design, build, and maintain backend services and APIs that power platform-wide features including checkout, order management, payments, inventory, and reporting. - Improve production reliability, observability, latency, and maintainability across critical customer journeys. - Contribute to architectural evolution, including microservices, service refactoring, and decomposition of legacy monolithic components. - Implement and operate asynchronous communication, background processing, queueing, and caching patterns in distributed systems. - Collaborate with product owners, front-end engineers, QA, analysts, and DevOps to clarify requirements and drive solutions from concept to release. - Use AI-assisted development tools to accelerate context gathering, code quality, and day-to-day engineering work.

Requirements - Strong commercial experience with C# and .NET in production environments. - Solid understanding of backend architecture, REST/gRPC APIs, relational databases, and distributed systems concepts. - Hands-on experience with microservices, queues, caching, and background or asynchronous processing. - Ability to troubleshoot production incidents and performance bottlenecks under pressure. - Ownership mindset with the communication skills needed to collaborate across teams and time zones. - Working written and spoken English sufficient for collaboration and occasional calls.

Nice to have - Experience with high-load systems and latency-sensitive customer journeys. - Background in eCommerce, payments, checkout, order management, inventory, or reporting flows. - Prior work decomposing monoliths or modernizing legacy systems. - Familiarity with Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, and observability tooling. - Experience in product companies or startup-like environments.

Benefits and work setup - Fully remote, remote-first organization with flexible working hours and a core collaboration window of 10:00–16:00 CET. - Two-week sprint cycles with regular technical discussions, planning sessions, and retrospectives. - Cross-functional collaboration with product, QA, front-end, analytics, and DevOps teams. - Rotating weekly support duty roughly once every two months during normal working hours; not an on-call rotation. - Compensation paid in USD under a B2B contract, with 20 paid vacation days plus 12 holidays, 3 sick leave days, medical insurance after probation, and equipment reimbursement for laptops and monitors.
