Role overview Lead a senior engineering team responsible for the next-generation media processing stack that powers global voice communications. This highly technical leadership role blends people management with hands-on systems thinking, driving architecture for low-latency, high-throughput media infrastructure handling billions of streams.
Responsibilities - Lead and grow a team of senior engineers developing core media processing capabilities for real-time voice services. - Drive architectural decisions for low-latency, high-throughput media systems operating at global scale. - Collaborate with product, platform, and other engineering groups to define and align technical roadmaps. - Establish engineering excellence through code quality standards, testing practices, and operational reliability discipline. - Mentor engineers and provide technical guidance on complex media processing challenges. - Balance technical debt reduction with feature delivery while maintaining strict service reliability targets. - Own service performance metrics, reliability goals, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Requirements - Five or more years of engineering management experience leading teams that build distributed systems. - Understanding of voice and VoIP infrastructure along with associated media handling challenges. - Strong technical background architecting and operating backend services at scale under strict SLOs. - Deep knowledge of systems design, microservice architecture, and cloud infrastructure. - Demonstrated success delivering critical infrastructure projects with significant technical complexity. - Experience using AI tools to improve developer velocity. - Strong knowledge of performance optimization, reliability engineering, and operational excellence. - Excellent communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences. - Hands-on experience in at least one of: real-time communications systems, media processing, or streaming technologies.
Nice to have - Familiarity with SIP, RTP/RTCP, media codecs, transcoding, packet loss concealment, and audio processing. - Background building low-latency globally distributed systems. - Experience with Rust, Java, C/C++, or platforms like Asterisk or gStreamer. - Experience building voice AI products and using AWS or similar cloud infrastructure. - Prior experience in telecommunications or communications platforms.
