Senior Software Engineer - Cloud/SRE (Full-Stack) - Fully Remote (UK/ EU)

Role overview

Senior Cloud/SRE engineer role within a small, high-ownership team that keeps a large-scale cyber security learning platform fast, reliable, and cost-efficient. The position spans production software in TypeScript and Node.js alongside AWS infrastructure, observability, and database operations for an unusually demanding environment that includes live virtual machines and hands-on security exercises. It is a fully remote position requiring strong overlap with UK business hours.

Responsibilities

- Design and operate AWS infrastructure across networking, compute, containers, databases, IAM, storage, and security - Write and maintain production Node.js and TypeScript alongside infrastructure-as-code and automation - Drive cloud cost optimisation without compromising reliability - Own reliability, observability, incident response, disaster recovery, and failure testing - Operate and scale production databases, addressing performance, capacity, and availability concerns - Evolve Vercel-based application hosting, virtual-machine infrastructure, and developer tooling that reduces operational overhead

Requirements

- Senior-level hands-on experience with AWS and infrastructure - Strong production experience with Node.js and TypeScript - Background spanning application code, distributed systems, reliability, and security - Experience with infrastructure-as-code, automation, and operational tooling - Strong communication skills and ability to work in a small, high-ownership team - Ability to work with strong overlap to UK business hours

Nice to have

- NoSQL or MongoDB experience - Vercel, Next.js infrastructure, Kubernetes or ECS - Observability tooling, high-scale SaaS - Disaster recovery or chaos engineering
