Job details
About this role
Role overview
Help modernize an existing Azure Synapse data platform by refining its target architecture and moving selected workloads to Microsoft Fabric. You will build reusable ingestion and transformation patterns, support accurate migration, and work alongside client engineers so they can maintain and extend the resulting platform.
Responsibilities
- Assess existing Synapse pipelines and dependencies, then contribute to Fabric architecture and migration decisions. - Build metadata-driven ingestion frameworks and scalable pipelines for full, incremental, or change-data-capture loads. - Develop Fabric lakehouse, pipeline, and notebook workloads using PySpark, Spark SQL, and medallion architecture patterns. - Create migration validation and reconciliation processes to check data quality and consistency between source and target systems. - Establish Git-based CI/CD and automated promotion of platform artifacts across environments. - Use Claude Code to guide development and review generated code; pair with client engineers, share knowledge, and document sustainable patterns. - Consider metadata, lineage, governance, performance, monitoring, security, and operational support in platform design.
Requirements
- Five or more years working with Azure data services, with production experience in Microsoft Fabric and familiarity with Synapse. - Experience building production ETL/ELT pipelines and reusable, configuration-based ingestion frameworks. - Hands-on work with Fabric lakehouses, pipelines, notebooks, workspaces, capacity management, and Bronze, Silver, and Gold layers. - Strong PySpark, Spark SQL, and SQL skills, including reading existing T-SQL and tuning transformations. - Experience implementing Git-based CI/CD for data artifacts and validating data migrations. - Practical experience using Claude Code across multiple files, directing code generation, and critically reviewing its output. - Strong collaboration and communication skills for client-facing technical work. - Must live in the United States, have authorization to work there without current or future sponsorship, and pass a background check.
Nice to have
Experience migrating Synapse workloads to Fabric; working with Oracle or DB2; implementing CDC and large-scale reconciliation; evaluating Purview or similar catalog tools; or working in consulting.
