Remote job
Senior Software Engineer: Fleet Enablement & Insights (Map Validation & Annotation Platform)
Job details
About this role
Role overview A senior engineering role on a Fleet Enablement and Insights team building map validation, simulation, and annotation systems for an autonomous trucking platform. The work spans backend services, large-scale data pipelines, and web-based 3D annotation tooling, with a direct line of sight into the data that trains and validates the autonomy stack.
Responsibilities - Architect and own backend services and data pipelines powering map validation and simulation for autonomous trucks. - Provide technical leadership for an annotation platform, including scalable web-based tooling for cuboid and polygon editing, cross-frame interpolation, track propagation, and review workflows. - Design data models and storage across relational, spatial, and large-scale object stores, with attention to integrity, lineage, and performance. - Build high-performance point cloud and image rendering using three.js and WebGL, including octree-based streaming, predictive prefetching, and multi-sensor overlays. - Drive technical design decisions across the map validation and annotation domains and align stakeholders on direction. - Mentor engineers through code reviews, design reviews, and pairing, while raising the bar for documentation and operational rigor. - Identify and reduce technical debt, performance bottlenecks, and reliability gaps across the stack.
Requirements - 5+ years building and operating production backend services at scale. - Strong proficiency in Python, with a track record of shipping production-quality services and tools. - Solid SQL skills for querying, transforming, and analyzing relational and analytical data. - Experience designing web services and APIs, with strong TypeScript and modern web framework knowledge; full-stack experience is a plus. - Working knowledge of C++ or the ability to ramp into it. - Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL or similar databases, including schema design for integrity and performance. - Demonstrated ownership of system design and architecture across complex, multi-service systems.
Nice to have - Experience with geospatial data, spatial queries, and formats such as OpenDRIVE, NDS, or Lanelet2. - Background working with large binary or sensor datasets including point clouds, imagery, and video. - Familiarity with point cloud rendering and streaming formats such as Potree, COPC, 3D Tiles, LAS, or LAZ. - Browser-based 3D graphics experience with three.js, WebGL, or comparable stacks. - Exposure to robotics data and visualization ecosystems like Rerun, Foxglove, MCAP, or ROS bags. - Prior work on autonomous vehicles or HD map production pipelines. - Contributions to open-source geospatial, data engineering, simulation, robotics, or annotation projects.
Benefits and work setup - US hiring range of $160,800 to $193,000, plus a bonus component and stock options. - 100% employer-paid medical, dental, and vision premiums for full-time employees. - 401(k) plan with a 6% employer match. - Flexible scheduling and generous paid vacation available from the start date. - AD+D and life insurance coverage.
