Role overview A global interactive audio platform for children is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to join a product team responsible for the IoT cloud services that power millions of connected devices worldwide. The role centers on building and maintaining the backend that supports device setup, configuration, and diagnostics, with a strong emphasis on reliability, usability, and clean code. It is a hands-on engineering position within a cross-functional, stream-aligned team collaborating closely with Product Management.
Responsibilities - Design, build, and maintain the IoT cloud services that support millions of always-on devices globally. - Develop and evolve a Django-based backend platform exposing both RESTful and GraphQL APIs. - Operate and improve the IoT messaging stack that ingests and processes large volumes of technical diagnostic data from connected devices. - Uphold a 24/7 availability target and contribute toward a 99.99% SLA through resilient architecture and proactive reliability work. - Collaborate with the Product Manager and team members to deliver a smooth in-app experience for parents setting up and configuring their hardware. - Champion technical excellence, automated testing, CI/CD practices, and observability across the service.
Requirements - Several years of professional experience as a software engineer with a passion for continuous improvement. - Proven track record building or maintaining backends for IoT products. - Fluency in at least two programming languages, with strong, current Python skills and solid Django experience. - Experience designing and consuming REST or GraphQL APIs, plus comfort with PostgreSQL (or similar) and ORMs. - Daily proficiency with Linux, Git, and GitLab, along with a strong stance on automated testing, CI/CD, and observability. - Professional working proficiency in English and current residence in Germany.
