Job details
About this role
Role overview
Build and improve the tools, platforms, and workflows that help software engineers develop and release services more efficiently. The work spans local development environments, shared platform components, testing infrastructure, and AI-assisted engineering tools, with responsibility for measuring improvements and operating owned services.
Responsibilities - Maintain local development tools that speed up the edit, build, and test cycle. - Contribute to internal platform components such as service templates and a developer portal. - Identify workflow bottlenecks—including slow builds, unreliable tests, or difficult setup—and use metrics to assess fixes. - Expand testing frameworks and shared libraries used to build web services. - Help introduce AI-assisted development tools and support effective adoption among engineering teams. - Gather feedback from product engineers, document changes, review code, and operate owned services, including monitoring and incident follow-up.
Requirements - At least two years of professional experience delivering production software. - Proficiency in a general-purpose language such as Kotlin, Java, Go, or TypeScript. - Experience maintaining developer tooling and shared libraries. - Working knowledge of containers and cloud infrastructure, such as Docker and AWS. - Strong testing practices, maintainable coding habits, and comfort debugging unfamiliar code across a stack. - Clear communication and empathy for engineers using the tools you build.
Nice to have - Experience with Backstage, developer metrics such as DORA or build and test analytics, or observability tools. - Familiarity with AI coding assistants, third-party engineering tools, or developer tool contributions such as CLIs and IDE plugins.
Benefits and work setup - Work options include remote positions in the United States and hybrid roles in Boston, New York, and San Francisco. - Compensation includes a location-based salary range, with potential additional cash compensation, equity, and benefits.
