Senior Software Engineer, Containers
Job details
About this role
Role overview Build and operate product features, services, and build systems for secure container images and the infrastructure that distributes them. You will own projects end to end in a small engineering team, working with product managers and customers to make trade-offs and deliver improvements to production. The work spans image creation, registry performance, customer tooling, and compliance capabilities.
Responsibilities - Design, build, and ship container product features from initial proposal through launch and early customer use. - Improve capabilities such as customer image publishing, image assembly, Helm charts, notifications, and compliance views. - Develop image build systems that produce signed and attested images at scale, including work on runner infrastructure. - Improve registry distribution and performance, including faster image access and signing workflows. - Build tools that help engineers and AI agents adopt secure images, such as Dockerfile migration utilities and agent-accessible services. - Maintain systems through observability, on-call participation, incident fixes, and clear technical documentation.
Requirements - At least three years building and operating software used by paying customers. - Strong fundamentals in a systems language, API design, databases, caching, and cloud infrastructure; Go, GCP, or AWS experience is relevant. - Working knowledge of containers, registries, OCI images, and Kubernetes. - Ability to reason across systems, assess trade-offs, make progress with incomplete requirements, and adapt as priorities change. - Daily experience using AI coding agents in development, review, or operations. - Clear written English and experience working on a distributed team; communicate risks early and follow through on commitments.
Nice to have - Software supply chain security experience or familiarity with open-source tools for building Linux packages and container images. - Infrastructure-as-code experience, open-source contributions, or a non-traditional path into engineering.
Benefits and work setup - Remote role; candidates in the United States are preferred, with Canada, the United Kingdom, and Germany also listed as eligible locations. Visa sponsorship and relocation are unavailable. - Benefits include flexible time off, health, vision, and dental coverage for employees and dependents, paid parental leave, equity, and a monthly stipend for coworking, phone, and internet costs.
