Senior Software Engineer

Role overview A Senior Software Engineer is needed to build and scale the platforms that calculate and deliver pay to restaurant employees. The work spans tip pooling and redistribution, wage calculation, earnings retrieval, and payroll delivery—mission-critical infrastructure that determines what employees actually take home. This is a lead-engineer position on highly visible infrastructure that powers products used by restaurant teams every day.

Responsibilities - Drive the evolution of tips and earnings platforms, leading complex projects that improve functionality and reliability - Take end-to-end ownership of systems, contributing to a strong engineering culture centered on correctness and long-term maintainability - Lead projects from design and estimation through implementation, testing, and deployment - Ship code that directly affects product revenue and the accuracy of what employees are paid - Partner with product and design to influence what gets built and how - Mentor engineers and elevate team standards through code reviews and technical discussion - Use AI-assisted development tools to accelerate delivery and pioneer better ways of working

Requirements - 5+ years of back-end experience with an object-oriented language such as Java or Kotlin - Proficiency with modern web standards and technologies such as React, TypeScript, REST, or GraphQL - Proficiency with traditional databases and alternative data stores - Experience owning and operating production systems - Experience with distributed systems, enterprise messaging, and microservices - A strong appreciation for precision and correctness, especially when output drives someone's paycheck - A track record of tackling ambiguous, high-impact challenges and delivering scalable solutions - Strong cross-team communication on complex technical topics

Benefits and work setup Base salary ranges from $125,000 to $254,000 USD depending on geographic zone, with additional cash compensation (overtime, bonus, or commissions where eligible) and equity. The team operates on a hybrid model that supports in-person collaboration while valuing individual needs.
