Job details
About this role
Role overview
Lead the engineering teams building features and the app experience for a privacy-focused AI assistant that runs locally on users’ devices. The role combines engineering leadership with product partnership: product defines the direction, while you shape the technical approach, delivery, and quality bar. You’ll work closely with team leads and AI research and deep technology teams to turn emerging capabilities into dependable features that fit real device constraints.
Responsibilities
- Guide app and feature teams day to day, unblock work, review designs and code, and support steady delivery. - Set expectations for performance, reliability, and clear API design. - Own feature technical design and the interface between the AI core and the application. - Partner with product managers to turn the roadmap into scoped, buildable work, and offer alternatives when scope and technical realities diverge. - Bring practical insight about local AI capabilities and limitations to product decisions; use AI tools and prototypes to explore ideas before committing to them. - Clarify team goals, mentor team leads, and adjust your involvement as teams grow in ownership.
Requirements
- Experience managing engineers or engineering leads delivering consumer products, ideally AI-powered applications. - Strong product judgment and the ability to distinguish useful features from unnecessary complexity. - Practical understanding of applied AI and on-device limits, including model size, latency, memory, and battery use. - Deep JavaScript and React expertise. - Regular use of AI tools in your own work and an interest in experimenting with new models and capabilities. - Initiative, curiosity, resilience, and comfort giving and receiving direct feedback.
Nice to have
Experience with local or on-device inference, language model evaluation, cross-platform mobile or desktop applications, or open-source projects.
Benefits and work setup
The position is described as fully remote, with a globally distributed team.
