Product Engineering Lead, Keet

Role overview

A remote leadership role for a fully peer-to-peer messaging and video calling application built on a decentralized P2P stack with end-to-end encryption and no central servers. The role blends roughly 70% engineering leadership with 30% product partnership, reporting to the CTO and shaping features that need to hold up at global consumer scale.

Responsibilities

- Lead the API team that extends the P2P core with feature-focused APIs and the frontend team that builds the React app on top, each with its own lead. - Run engineering reviews and keep the API team closely aligned with deeper protocol teams on code reviews, design, and engine work. - Work alongside product managers to turn vision and roadmap into scoped, buildable iterations, pushing back when scope and reality don't match. - Apply an engineering lens to product decisions, finding places where P2P unlocks experiences centralized apps cannot. - Use AI tools and quick prototypes to validate ideas before committing engineering effort. - Set clear team goals, mentor team leads, and strengthen team operating systems and cross-team collaboration.

Requirements

- Experience managing engineers or engineering leads who ship consumer product, ideally in chat, calling, or social apps. - Strong product sense and the ability to distinguish meaningful features from busy ones. - Intuition for distributed and local-first systems; comfort with offline-first behavior and eventual consistency. - Deep expertise in JavaScript and React. - Initiative, curiosity, resilience, and the ability to give and receive direct critique.

Nice to have

- Background with local-first apps, CRDTs or sync engines, offline-capable mobile or desktop apps, or open-source contributions.
