P2P Node.js Engineer - Holepunch (100% Remote, Worldwide)
Job details
About this role
Role overview This role sits at the core of a peer-to-peer platform built on Node.js, expanding and hardening the low-level networking and storage primitives that other products are built on. It is a hands-on, performance-oriented engineering position for someone who loves digging into protocols, sockets, and runtime internals.
Responsibilities - Extend and optimize core peer-to-peer networking and storage primitives used across the platform - Implement custom binary protocols and serialization formats tailored for low-latency P2P traffic - Profile, benchmark, and tune networked systems to squeeze out latency and throughput gains - Build reliable behavior on top of unreliable networks, including NAT traversal and reconnect logic - Contribute to open-source P2P projects and shared networking libraries where appropriate - Collaborate with a globally distributed engineering team on architecture and design decisions
Requirements - 5+ years building production P2P or distributed systems - Extensive knowledge of P2P protocols such as Kademlia, BitTorrent, libp2p, or hypercore - Advanced JavaScript skills for writing high-performance networking code - Deep understanding of UDP and TCP/IP networking, including NAT traversal techniques - Familiarity with cryptographic primitives used for secure P2P communication - Experience with performance profiling and optimization of networked systems
Nice to have - Knowledge of V8 internals and JavaScript performance characteristics - Experience optimizing JavaScript for low-latency networking applications - Experience with libuv and asynchronous I/O in C - Experience building Node.js native addons and bridging between JavaScript and C - Contributions to open-source P2P or networking projects
