Software Engineer III

Role overview

A remote software engineering role on a digital banking team responsible for building the next generation of services that power an open API and online/mobile banking products. Engineers work in a microservices architecture with Scala, Postgres, and Kafka, delivering platform capabilities that are consumed by both internal teams and external developers.

Responsibilities

- Build, test, deploy, maintain, and scale backend services in a microservices architecture using a modern high-level language such as Scala, along with Postgres and Kafka - Collaborate with engineering peers to identify needs, prioritize work, and deliver solutions that keep pace with product development - Develop deep domain expertise in the banking-related areas the team owns and understand how changes impact downstream products - Partner with customer support teams to resolve technical issues and improve service quality - Contribute to platform improvements that serve both internal product teams and external API consumers

Requirements

- Professional experience building backend services in a modern high-level language such as Scala - Hands-on experience with relational databases (e.g., Postgres) and event streaming platforms (e.g., Kafka) - Comfort designing and operating services in a microservices architecture - Solid understanding of API design and consumption patterns - Ability to work remotely within the United States (excluding California); immigration sponsorship is not available for this role

Nice to have

- Experience in financial services, banking software, or other regulated domains - Familiarity with public-facing APIs consumed by third-party developers - Exposure to mobile or web product development lifecycles
