Remote job
Senior Data Platform Engineer
Job details
About this role
Role overview
Build backend and data platform software that connects enterprise systems and makes their information usable across applications, analytics, and AI workflows. The role spans data access, ingestion, synchronization, and processing, with ownership from design through production operation. Remote candidates are welcome, with a preference for the Bay Area.
Responsibilities
- Develop services and APIs for querying, accessing, ingesting, and synchronizing data. - Create reusable connector frameworks and abstractions that support varied systems and access patterns. - Find performance bottlenecks in queries and data movement, then improve throughput and resource use with techniques such as partitioning and parallelism. - Build orchestration, retries, checkpoints, and observability so workloads recover reliably and preserve data correctness. - Work with product and engineering partners to define interfaces, make architecture decisions, and operate delivered capabilities.
Requirements
- Four or more years of experience in data platform engineering. - Strong Python and SQL skills, with a track record of building maintainable, tested production software. - Experience building backend services, data infrastructure, or platform components, beyond configuring data pipelines. - Understanding of relational databases, query optimization, data formats, and the tradeoffs between querying data in place and materializing it elsewhere. - Experience with concurrent or distributed workloads, including failure handling, resource management, and performance investigation. - Ability to investigate unfamiliar systems and turn complex needs into practical designs.
Nice to have
- Experience with analytical query engines, lakehouse systems, workflow orchestration, enterprise integrations, or containerized infrastructure. - Experience building connector libraries, developer-facing APIs, or shared platforms for engineering teams. - Familiarity with AWS, Azure, or GCP infrastructure, including networking, storage, identity and access management, and infrastructure as code.
