Principal Data Engineer

Role overview Lead the design and delivery of data infrastructure for analytical and product use. You’ll build lakehouse architecture, pipelines, and data models that connect transactional application data with fast analytics, while setting clear technical specifications and quality standards.

Responsibilities - Design open-source lakehouse solutions and build high-performance analytical systems in ClickHouse. - Develop and improve ETL/ELT pipelines, transformations, and data models that connect Postgres applications with analytics workloads. - Work with product and engineering partners to define data structures for operational and analytical needs. - Specify contracts, schemas, and expected behaviors before implementation. - Establish data quality checks and pipeline observability; improve performance, cost, and reliability. - Use AI-assisted development tools to speed up implementation and reduce repetitive work.

Requirements - At least five years in data engineering, analytics engineering, or a related field. - Deep ClickHouse experience, including deployment, query optimization, schema design, and materialized views; strong Postgres and SQL skills. - Hands-on experience with lakehouse patterns such as Delta Lake, Iceberg, or Hudi, and workflow tools such as Airflow, Dagster, dbt, or Prefect. - Strong Python skills and TypeScript experience for service integrations. - Experience with batch and streaming frameworks such as Spark, Kafka, or Flink, and with real-time analytics. - Regular use of AI coding assistants; experience applying LLMs to data transformation, validation, or pipeline generation.

Nice to have - Familiarity with data contracts, schema registries, or data mesh principles; contributions to open-source data projects; experience on cross-functional product teams.

Benefits and work setup - Remote work is available to candidates located in the United States. Occasional office visits or team offsites may be part of the role. - The stated national base pay is $180,000 USD. Candidates must already be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship.
