Director of Data Center Facilities - AI Infrastructure

Role overview

This role provides senior leadership over a high-density AI data center built to support GPU computing at scale. The position owns physical infrastructure strategy, operations, reliability, and expansion, partnering across Operations, Engineering, Network, Construction, Security, Finance, Procurement, utilities, and technology vendors to deliver the power, cooling, and connectivity that fast-growing AI workloads demand.

Responsibilities

- Lead facilities operations supporting high-density AI and GPU compute environments, including operational readiness, infrastructure validation, and incident response for electrical, mechanical, thermal, and cooling issues.

- Oversee high-density power infrastructure, including substations, medium-voltage distribution, transformers, switchgear, UPS systems, generators, busways, PDUs, and rack-level distribution, while partnering on utility capacity, grid interconnection, and long-range power plans.

- Direct advanced cooling and thermal management, including liquid-cooling reliability, leak detection, water quality, filtration, and standards for evolving GPU, accelerator, and networking requirements.

- Develop multi-year capacity plans that translate compute roadmaps into megawatts, cooling tonnage, rack density, water, and space requirements, and participate in site selection, due diligence, and campus master planning.

- Lead facilities participation in design, construction, commissioning, and turnover of new AI data center capacity, reviewing engineering designs, redundancy models, and commissioning plans.

- Manage energy and sustainability initiatives, optimizing PUE, WUE, power utilization, cooling efficiency, and carbon impact, and evaluating alternative cooling, heat reuse, and water-conservation strategies.

Requirements

- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Facilities Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience.

- 10+ years of experience in mission-critical data centers, high-density computing environments, or comparable critical infrastructure facilities.

- 5+ years of experience leading large technical facilities organizations.

- Demonstrated experience managing large-scale electrical and mechanical infrastructure, including high rack power densities and rapidly scaling compute environments.

- Strong understanding of mission-critical maintenance, reliability engineering, incident management, and operational readiness.

- Demonstrated experience managing significant operating and capital budgets, with strong capacity planning and facility expansion skills.
