Senior Quality Assurance Engineer | Contract | Remote, MX

About this role
Role overview This contract role is for a Senior Quality Assurance Engineer who owns quality across a React Native mobile app and a Next.js web experience, backed by Java/Spring Boot services sitting behind a Node BFF. The emphasis is on investigation rather than just reporting — reading device and crash logs, working with developer tooling, hitting APIs directly, and using AI-assisted workflows to speed up test case generation and repro work. The right hire partners with engineering, product, and design throughout the build cycle, not only at the end.
Responsibilities - Run manual and exploratory test passes against web and mobile releases, working from acceptance criteria, designs, and curiosity about where things break. - Use browser developer tools as a first-line diagnostic, not just confirmation, to narrow down where a bug lives. - Debug the React Native app on real iOS and Android devices and emulators — reading native crash logs, using Metro and React DevTools, inspecting network traffic, and reproducing issues across OS versions. - Use Datadog (logs, dashboards, error tracking, RUM/session replay) to triage issues and determine whether bugs are client- or server-side. - Test REST APIs directly, validating payloads, status codes, auth and role-based access, idempotency, retries, and edge-case behavior. - Write action-ready bug reports with repro steps, environment, expected vs. actual, logs, network calls, and screenshots. - Build and maintain regression suites and release checklists, gradually moving repetitive coverage into automation. - Partner with engineering, product, and design throughout feature development; surface quality risks early and recommend go/no-go calls.
Requirements - Strong fluency with browser developer tools and the ability to read a JavaScript error, inspect network traffic, and debug client behavior. - Hands-on debugging of React Native on real iOS and Android devices, including crash logs and over-the-air builds. - API testing experience with Postman or comparable tools; services are Java/Spring Boot REST APIs behind a Node BFF. - Basic SQL (Postgres) and comfort reading structured application logs. - Familiarity with Datadog or a comparable observability platform. - Clear written and verbal communication — described as the single most important non-technical trait for this hire. - Experience wiring automated tests into CI (GitHub Actions or comparable) and reducing flaky-test noise. - Active, daily use of AI-assisted tooling in the workflow.
Nice to have - Enough TypeScript and React to read code and understand what a change touched. - Comfort reading existing Jest and Testing Library unit tests. - Feature flag and experimentation tooling (Optimizely, LaunchDarkly). - Verifying analytics and event tracking (Segment, Mixpanel, Braze) during test passes. - Mobile crash reporting exposure (Sentry, Firebase Crashlytics). - Accessibility, performance, or load testing experience (Gatling, Artillery). - Familiarity with Jira and a test case management tool. - Understanding of how a React Native build reaches a device via TestFlight, Play internal testing, and OTA updates.
Benefits and work setup - Project-based contract; remote; candidates must be authorized to work in and be located in Mexico.
