Job details
About this role
Role overview
This role leads a developer relations engineering function for a software company whose products make it easy for people and devices to securely connect across networks. The position blends people leadership with hands-on technical execution, partnering across product, engineering, growth, content, and customer-facing teams to turn a complex platform into approachable experiences for developers. The manager sets technical direction, mentors a team of builders, and still writes code, ships prototypes, and shows up in the community.
Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a team of developer relations engineers, setting clear expectations, providing coaching, and helping both senior and emerging contributors expand their impact - Build and maintain a focused technical roadmap spanning integrations, example applications, open-source projects, reference architectures, demos, tutorials, and workshops - Act as a player-coach by contributing directly to high-leverage work: writing and reviewing code, building prototypes, debugging integrations, and producing working demos alongside the team - Serve as a visible technical voice through videos, conference talks, workshops, and community engagement - Partner with product, engineering, growth, content, sales, and customer success to coordinate launches, share developer feedback, and shape product strategy - Define, track, and report on DevRel performance, including audience growth, engagement, activation, integration adoption, and self-serve funnel contribution
Requirements
- 6+ years of experience in developer relations, developer advocacy, software engineering, or a closely related field - 2+ years managing, coaching, or leading technical contributors and scaling a DevRel or similar function - Strong software engineering foundation, including comfort writing and reviewing production-quality code, working with APIs and developer tooling, and debugging unfamiliar systems - Hands-on experience shipping developer-facing projects such as integrations, SDK examples, open-source tools, demos, or workshops from idea through launch - Ability to translate product and business priorities into a focused roadmap and make thoughtful trade-offs between experimentation, education, and integrations - Strong written and verbal communication skills, plus program management strengths in planning, prioritization, delegation, and risk communication
Nice to have
- Experience managing agency partners, contractors, program budgets, or external contributors - Background in a fast-paced startup or scale-up environment - Prior quota or revenue accountability in technical roles
Benefits and work setup
- Remote-first team with distributed collaboration and optional access to co-working spaces - Competitive total compensation including base salary, equity incentive plan, and variable commission for quota-based roles - Comprehensive health, vision, and dental benefits with no waiting period for employees and dependents - Employer-matched retirement contributions up to an annual cap - Annual company retreat and team off-sites supporting in-person collaboration across multiple countries - $1,500 USD annual budget for professional development, plus mentorship and internal growth opportunities - Flexible paid time off designed to support work-life integration - Home office setup including choice of company laptop, monthly internet reimbursement, and a workstation customization allowance - Paid parental leave top-ups (20 weeks for birthing parents, 16 weeks for non-birthing parents) - US base salary range of $161,000–$201,000, with variation based on experience and skill set
