Role overview
This data centre technician position operates on a 24/7 rotating shift pattern (four days on, four off, alternating day and night 12-hour shifts between 7am and 7pm). The technician is responsible for providing hands-on customer support across a diverse client base, maintaining service levels, and keeping the ticketing system up to date within live data centre environments.
Responsibilities
- Install server, network, and storage hardware with associated cabling and patching. - Perform copper and fibre patching for a range of client requirements. - Decommission hardware, prepare it for shipping, and coordinate with third-party couriers. - Carry out remote hands duties such as power cycling equipment, replacing failed components, re-seating network cards, and testing cabling. - Conduct routine checks for network activity, firewall status, and hardware error indicators. - Audit client cabling and hardware, producing supporting documentation. - Work with internal and external client teams on diagnosis and incident resolution across multiple technologies. - Act as an access host for client visitors to the data centre. - Manage and process access, remote hands, and delivery tickets for co-location clients and internal works. - Support client migrations, scheduled maintenance, infrastructure upgrades, and out-of-hours incidents. - Uphold ISO 9001, ISO 27001, ISO 20000, and ITIL standards, keeping the data centre clean and presentable.
Requirements
- Prior hands-on technical experience with copper and fibre cabling; data centre experience is welcome but not essential. - Eligibility to pass security checks including SC, NPPV3, and BPSS clearance. - Full UK driving licence and access to a personal car for travel to sites. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills. - Ability to work well under pressure while maintaining attention to detail. - Self-motivated, well organised, and able to work alone or as part of a team. - Willingness to learn with a friendly, professional, and flexible attitude.
