About this role

Role overview

Software Development Engineer in Test position on a Linux behavioural detection team responsible for runtime protection of Linux servers, workloads, and containers. The team owns its own CI, test estate, and quality bar, watching process, file, network, and kernel-level activity to identify attacks in real time across bare metal, VMs, containers, and managed Kubernetes. It is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys both automation and infrastructure and wants to deepen both at once.

Responsibilities

- Help maintain and improve the Buildkite CI environment, including pipelines, agents, queues, plugins, build performance, and day-to-day reliability. - Support the cloud estate used for manual, automated, and CI workloads, including routine upgrades and monitoring. - Build new test pipelines for new features and platforms, working alongside senior engineers on overall design and owning implementation. - Write automated tests at component, integration, end-to-end, and longer-running stability levels. - Extend platform coverage across a wide spread of Linux distributions, kernel versions, and deployment shapes.

Requirements

- Solid experience with CI systems, cloud infrastructure, and Kubernetes, including managed offerings such as EKS, AKS, or GKE. - Comfort working close to the Linux kernel across diverse distributions and deployment targets. - Strong automation skills with the ability to take on well-defined tasks independently and larger design pieces collaboratively. - A mindset suited to a small, autonomous team that sets its own quality bar. - Legal authorisation to work in the posted jurisdiction without employer sponsorship.

Nice to have

- Exposure to low-level Linux security concepts and behavioural detection. - Experience with cloud cost, capacity planning, or large-scale test infrastructure.

Benefits and work setup

- Remote-first working model, with some roles requiring a hybrid approach. - Employee-led diversity and inclusion networks, annual charity and volunteering initiatives, and global sustainability programmes. - Regular wellbeing activities including fitness and trivia competitions, dedicated wellbeing days, and monthly wellbeing webinars. - A culture that encourages applicants to apply even when not every box is ticked, valuing unique experiences and skills.
