Role overview A fully distributed, text-to-speech company is hiring a Software Engineer to own data acquisition and infrastructure for its AI training operations in Tokyo. The position sits on the data side of the AI team, building and operating pipelines that deliver petabyte-scale, cost-efficient audio datasets powering next-generation consumer and enterprise products. The team integrates engineering, infrastructure, and research tightly, working asynchronously with no central office.
Responsibilities - Discover and onboard new sources of audio data into the ingestion pipeline. - Operate and extend cloud infrastructure hosted on GCP and managed with Terraform. - Collaborate closely with research scientists to shift the cost, throughput, and quality frontier, producing richer datasets at larger scale. - Help shape the AI team's dataset roadmap that fuels next-generation products. - Manage multiple parallel workstreams and reprioritize as needs evolve.
Requirements - BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or a closely related discipline. - 5+ years of professional software development experience. - Proficiency in bash and Python scripting in Linux environments. - Practical experience with Docker and Infrastructure-as-Code patterns on at least one major cloud provider. - Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Nice to have - Hands-on experience with web crawlers and large-scale data processing workflows.
