Software Engineer, Data Infrastructure & Acquisition - Los Angeles, CA, USA

Role overview Join the data-focused side of an AI team responsible for every stage of audio data collection that fuels large-scale model training. The position blends cloud engineering, scripting, and research collaboration to ship petabyte-scale datasets at low cost for a text-to-speech product used by tens of millions of readers. The role is part of a fully distributed team and is being hired for the Los Angeles area.

Responsibilities - Discover and onboard new audio sources into the ingestion pipeline - Run and extend the cloud infrastructure that powers data ingestion, currently on Google Cloud Platform and managed through Terraform - Work closely with research scientists to push the cost, throughput, and quality frontier of dataset production - Contribute to the team's dataset roadmap alongside AI leadership - Deliver richer data at larger scale and lower cost to support next-generation consumer and enterprise products

Requirements - BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or a related field - 5+ years of industry software development experience - Strong proficiency in bash and Python scripting on Linux - Solid grasp of Docker and Infrastructure-as-Code concepts, plus professional experience with at least one major cloud provider - Comfort prioritizing across multiple tasks in a fast-changing environment - Strong written and verbal communication skills

Nice to have - Experience building web crawlers or running large-scale data processing workflows
