Role overview A fully distributed text-to-speech company is hiring a Software Engineer in Oakland to run data acquisition and infrastructure for its AI training operations. The position sits at the intersection of infrastructure engineering and applied research, owning pipelines that produce petabyte-scale audio datasets powering next-generation consumer and enterprise products. Work is 100% remote and asynchronous, with no central office.
Responsibilities - Source new audio datasets and bring them into the ingestion pipeline. - Operate and evolve the cloud ingestion stack built on GCP and managed with Terraform. - Collaborate with scientists to push down cost and scale up throughput and quality of training data. - Influence the AI team's dataset roadmap for upcoming consumer and enterprise releases. - Manage several priorities in parallel and adapt quickly to shifting demands.
Requirements - BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or a related field. - 5+ years of industry software development experience. - Proficiency with bash and Python scripting on Linux. - Practical experience with Docker and Infrastructure-as-Code patterns on at least one major cloud provider. - Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Nice to have - Experience with web crawlers and large-scale data processing systems.
