About this role
Role overview The position focuses on data acquisition and infrastructure for an AI team behind a widely used text-to-speech reading product available across major platforms. The engineer will help the team build petabyte-scale training datasets cheaply and reliably by combining infrastructure engineering with research-driven data sourcing decisions.
Responsibilities - Hunt down new audio data sources and integrate them into the existing ingestion pipeline. - Maintain and grow the GCP-based cloud environment that powers ingestion, using Terraform for infrastructure management. - Work side-by-side with research scientists to optimize cost, throughput, and quality for the next wave of models. - Co-author the dataset roadmap with AI team leadership, aligning research output with consumer and enterprise product goals. - Stay flexible as priorities shift between research, infrastructure reliability, and pipeline throughput.
Requirements - BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or a related field. - 5+ years of professional software development experience. - Proficiency in bash and Python scripting on Linux. - Production experience with Docker, infrastructure-as-code tooling, and a major cloud platform (GCP is the primary one in use). - Strong communication skills, written and verbal.
Nice to have - Hands-on experience with web crawlers or other large-scale data processing workflows.
