Role overview A distributed AI team behind a widely used text-to-speech platform is hiring a Software Engineer to lead the data side of its model training operations. The role blends cloud engineering, large-scale data collection, and research collaboration, with a mission to deliver richer datasets at lower cost and bigger scale. The engineer will be based in Alexandria, VA and influence the dataset strategy for future consumer and enterprise products.
Responsibilities - Scour for new audio sources and integrate them into the team's ingestion pipeline. - Operate and enhance the cloud environment on GCP, provisioned and managed through Terraform. - Collaborate closely with research scientists to push the boundaries of cost, throughput, and quality. - Help define the dataset roadmap alongside AI leadership to support upcoming product launches. - Manage parallel workstreams and adjust quickly as ingestion priorities evolve.
Requirements - BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or a related field. - 5+ years of professional software development experience. - Strong scripting ability in bash and Python within Linux environments. - Production experience with Docker, Infrastructure-as-Code, and at least one major cloud provider (GCP preferred). - Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Nice to have - Experience with web crawlers or large-scale data processing pipelines.
