Role overview
This mid-level role focuses on building and supporting Scala-based services that power solutions for public sector clients. The work spans the full software development lifecycle, from translating business requirements into technical designs through deployment and continuous improvement. It is a hybrid position suited to a developer who is comfortable working in Agile teams, contributing to code quality, and supporting government or healthcare-adjacent platforms.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and maintain software components across the full development lifecycle. - Build and enhance Scala-based REST APIs from technical designs and business requirements. - Collaborate with Business Analysts and technical team members to identify design gaps and deliver functional improvements. - Build, configure, and support scalable software solutions using modern development frameworks and tooling. - Write and execute unit tests to safeguard code quality and application reliability. - Debug and resolve issues across development, test, and production environments. - Participate in Agile ceremonies such as sprint planning, code reviews, and retrospectives. - Support application deployments, ongoing maintenance, and continuous improvement efforts.
Requirements
- Five or more years of experience in software development and application support. - Strong hands-on experience with Scala, Java, and REST API development, including developing and consuming RESTful services in Scala. - Working knowledge of JavaScript and modern web application development practices. - Familiarity with software design patterns, object-oriented programming, and secure coding practices. - Experience with unit testing, debugging, and troubleshooting complex applications. - Background working in Agile or Scrum environments. - Experience with AWS cloud services and cloud-native application development. - Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field. - Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance. - Must have lived in the United States for at least three of the past five years.

- Experience supporting CMS, federal government, or healthcare systems. - Experience working with NoSQL databases. - Prior work within dedicated Agile development teams.
