Sr. Symfony Engineer (Remote, Full-Time) - [HR191]

Role overview

This is a senior, fully remote backend engineering role focused on building and maintaining mission-critical systems in PHP and Symfony. The position emphasizes engineering craftsmanship, technical ownership, and clean architecture within an Agile team that partners closely with product, QA, and design throughout the full delivery lifecycle.

Responsibilities

- Design, build, and maintain backend services using PHP and Symfony - Take features end-to-end, from ticket creation and technical design through testing, review, and production release - Write clean, strongly-typed, maintainable, and testable code, applying design patterns consistently - Build and maintain automated test coverage using PHPUnit and similar tools - Practice and promote Test-Driven Development across the team - Use static analysis tools, linters, and code-quality tooling to enforce reliability - Participate in code reviews, giving and receiving constructive feedback - Collaborate with product, design, and QA to deliver robust solutions - Break down complex initiatives into well-defined tasks and guide implementation - Contribute to system monitoring, a rotating on-call schedule, and secure coding practices - Document architecture and key decisions to support team-wide knowledge sharing - Mentor junior and mid-level engineers and help shape engineering culture

Requirements

- 5+ years of professional PHP experience (7.4 or 8+) - 3+ years of hands-on Symfony framework experience - Strong understanding and practical use of design patterns - Solid experience with unit and integration testing (PHPUnit, Behat, or similar) - Hands-on Test-Driven Development experience - Familiarity with static analysis tools such as PHPStan or Psalm - Strong grasp of CI/CD pipelines, code coverage, and deployment workflows - Excellent technical communication and ability to explain and defend design decisions - High ownership mindset and a strong sense of accountability

Nice to have

- Experience working with MongoDB - Familiarity with JavaScript, React, Node.js, and/or TypeScript - Experience with Docker and/or Kubernetes - Background on high-availability or mission-critical systems
