Forward Deployed Engineer

Role overview Deliver production engineering outcomes for large organizations running demanding continuous integration and delivery workloads. You’ll work directly with customers to uncover technical needs, define bounded engagements, build the agreed solution as production code, and ensure it is handed off for ongoing support. The role combines software engineering with substantial customer interaction and helps establish how this new function operates.

Responsibilities - Join customer discovery with solutions and account partners to identify technical gaps, constraints, and recurring needs. - Turn customer problems into scoped engagements with agreed deliverables, estimates, and completion criteria; manage changes to scope. - Build platform features to product engineering standards and hand them off to product and engineering teams for continued support. - Share recurring customer needs with product teams so common workarounds can inform the roadmap. - Help customer-facing colleagues identify suitable engagements and explain their purpose and boundaries. - Work at customer sites and remain accountable through delivery and handoff.

Requirements - Recent experience shipping production software end to end and owning its outcome. - Engineering skills that meet the bar expected of product engineers. - Ability to translate business needs into technical specifications and explain technical tradeoffs clearly. - Sound judgment in scoping ambiguous requests, managing expectations, and distinguishing one-off needs from broadly useful product improvements. - Comfort working with large enterprises, including structured evaluations, security reviews, and senior stakeholders. - Interest in combining hands-on coding with close customer work, taking initiative, and building a new function through early engagements.

Nice to have Experience with CI/CD migrations, developer tools, infrastructure, B2B SaaS, forward-deployed engineering, or engineering teams at large or fast-growing organizations. Familiarity with the relevant CI platform is a plus.

Benefits and work setup Based on the US West Coast, with regular customer-site travel of about 25%. The role offers a base salary of $223,000–$247,000 USD plus equity, and compensation depends on location, experience, and qualifications. Listed benefits include 20 days of annual leave, 10 days of sick and carer’s leave, remote-work support, region-specific health and retirement coverage, paid parental leave, mental health support, and learning funds. Employees may work from anywhere for up to six weeks per year.
